Sowing collective support and dignity

Founded in 2021, ALCE (Abolition of Logics of Punishment and Confinement) emerged as a grassroots initiative led by survivors of psychiatric violence and individuals with experience in advocacy and activism for the rights of persons with disabilities.
ALCE is a response that materializes advocacy and political mobilization actions in the face of the absence of first-person collective proposals from activism against insanity in Colombia. Through mobilization and advocacy, we work for the abolition of forced psychiatrization and the transformation of current logics and practices associated with its normalization, proposing community-based alternatives for response. We seek to dismantle the political, legal, and institutional structures that result in confinement and punitive forms of responding to social situations arising from mental health systems, generating a disproportionate impact on historically marginalized groups.
